Yesterday I earned a blue belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, for me, this journey has been about so much more than just advancing to a new rank. Over the past year, my time on the mats has changed me in ways I didn’t expect, impacting not just my physical abilities but my personal and professional life too. I’m a much more humble, patient, grateful, and most importantly a happy person.
Every class is a challenge. Jiu-jitsu is tough and humbling, and you often find yourself outmatched. Yet, it’s this daily test that has taught me how to truly live in the moment, as it is really hard to focus on anything else when someone is choking you out. Stepping off the mats, I always feel stronger and more centered than when I walked in, regardless of how many times I ‘failed’ that day.
The transition from white to blue belt hasn’t changed my skills overnight, but it has deepened my appreciation for showing up and putting in the work. My goals are simple: keep coming to class, keep listening to my coaches, and keep doing my best. The improvements I’ve seen in my relationships, my business, and my mental well-being are the real victories for me.
I owe a huge thank you to my coaches Tim, Junior, and Claudio at Morning Star Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. You’re more than just coaches; you’re mentors who have made a big impact on my life. I’m looking forward to continuing this journey, learning more, and embracing every part of this experience.
